What is a Leader?

We are part of La Leche League Great Britain (LLLGB), which is an affiliate of La Leche League International (LLLI). LLLI is a volunteer-based organisation providing breastfeeding information and support to those who want to breastfeed their infants.

As a ‘Leader’ – the LLLI name for breastfeeding counsellor –  we have breastfed our children and then undertaken an accreditation process with LLLI to be able to support others on their breastfeeding journeys.

The mission statement of the organisation is:

To help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

La Leche League Great Britain (LLLGB) is committed to serving everyone – mothers, parents, families – in a way that is inclusive of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexes, national origins, ancestries, ages, marital statuses, physical or mental abilities, socio-economic statuses, political views, gender identities, sexual orientations, family structures, cultural values and beliefs.

Support is given through group meetings, help forms/emails, phone calls, video calls and social media. We, along with every other Leader in LLLGB, are all volunteers, managing our responsibilities alongside family and work commitments.

If you would like to know more, have a look at the LLLGB site , or borrow the LLLI book , the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, from our library.
